WordCamp Philippines badge1

I remember reading about Wordcamps only in my U.S.-based WP users/friends blogs and felt quite a bit envious, wondering why they’ve got so many blog-related events, conferences, and gatherings over there.  There are even podcasting camps!  But then, soon, the premier event for Wordpress users and developers will be arriving in Philippine shores!  Wordcamp Philippines 2008, as organized by some members of the Mindanao bloggers, will be held on September 6 at the College of Saint Benilde in Taft, Manila.

Organizers seem to be still in the process of drafting the schedule of activities during the event.  But, as posted on the website, the Wordcamp will be having the following components:

  • Deployment (Usage) Track
  • Development Track
  • Panel Discussions
  • WP Install-Fest
  • After Party!

Yeah, and guess what?  I’m as much excited with the usage track as with the after-party!

As a beginner level user of wordpress, it’s much appreciated that the organizers have developed a separate track for the developers.  Much as I wanted to know more about the advance uses of wordpress, I feel that it’ll be better if wp users who intend to be more of users instead of developers stay on different sessions as compared to the more experienced developers.  It’ll be much easier to learn when you’re with people who’re more or less on the same level as you are, instead of risking being lost along the way.

I have already registered for the event (see the registration page) but, since my schedule is very much volatile due to a planned change of work, I’m hoping that I could really be available to attend the event.  After all, it’s just for one day.  And the event is a first for the Philippines and in Asia, I think.  So, I’m crossing my fingers.

The following companies are sponsoring the event:

I hope to see y’all bloggers there!

Goodness!  It really did take me some time before I was able to decide which blogs to include in this list.  The problem I had in compiling the blogs was that most of the blogs I visit cannot qualify for the Top 10 anymore because their blogs started way before 2007.  I was keen on putting a vote for The Blog Rounds (TBR), a medical blog carnival started by Filipino doctors, as spearheaded by Bone MD.  But the problem is that the TBR isn’t hosted in its own blog, but rather is currently a section of Bone MD’s blog.  So I’m not sure if it would still qualify, though I’m more inclined to think that it wouldn’t.  So I’ve to review the other blogs I visit and came up with the following (listed in no particular order):

Filipino Voices.com

It is generally a blog, which is a product of the collaboration of different Filipino bloggers, that focuses on political and social issues.  And more than just a blog, I think it’s a symbol of the growing awareness involvement of more Filipinos in things happening around them and has rendered the power of the pen to further improve the dynamics of an ever-growing community of Filipino bloggers.  And the not-so-occasional verbose skirmishes in the comments’ section only demonstrates that, in this site, all sides are heard.

Bloggers’ Kapihan

Who says children nowadays are only concerned about mere appearances?  This blog is an initiative of the younger bloggers of the Philippine blogosphere that aims to bring forth for discussion important social issues both in the online and offline world.

Among Ed.org

This is a blog by Pampanga Governor Among Ed that has been recently launched through Bloggers’ Kapihan.  Among Ed, since he had the governatorial position, has inspired everyone and made us remember that, perhaps, it’ll be unfair to condemn the entire Philippine politics as a corrupted, greedy sphere as there are few like Among Ed who still strive to make the government work for the people.  And through this blog, Among Ed will remind us that there are actions undertaken to improve our lot, not merely rhetorics or plain propaganda.

visitsagada.com

Another collaborative blog, made by bloggers who have passion for all things Sagada.  I can never deny the influence of this blog, as I’ve personally perused the posts to help me plan a Sagada trip (which, unfortunately, didn’t push through though).  But for anyone who’s concocting a Sagada trip, it will be best that you read all what these bloggers can say about Sagada so as to make your trip productive and worthwhile.

Bloggers Da Who

Count on bloggers to know the latest chismis (which is inevitable, since bloggers like to network, hehe).  And I do remember that, when this site was first launched, it already garnered a lot of hits in one day!  And I’m sure, for a long time, bloggers do go back frequently to the site just so to have their daily dose of blogosphere chismis or to check if they have been Da-Whoed!

from Yahoo! movies

A movie that stars Angelina Jolie (and her extra-jointed thumb)…do you need any more reason to watch this movie?

Seriously, though, the merits of this movie doesn’t only include Angelina’s delicious behind.  If you want some cool ass-kicking, be it formulaic and Hollywoody, action movie filled with jaw-dropping visuals and perfectly choreographed fight scenes, then this is your movie.

Wanted is a movie that tells the story of how a young average guy, whose life totally sucks (who wouldn’t think so, with a boss who kept snapping staplers in front of your face?), turned from dork to demon when he learned by joining the Fraternity that he’s a born assassin.  He submitted himself to the tutelage of the foxy Fox (Angelina Jolie) and the other bold, weapon-wielding assassins of the Fraternity overseen by Sloan (Morgan Freeman), fired up by his desire to avenge the death of his father who’s also an assassin member of the group.  In the end, though, he gleaned the truth from the lies and set out to claim justice from the real antagonist.

One of my favorite scenes is the one when Angelina scooped up a bent over McAvoy into the red car by make a tire-burning, almost 360-degree turn.  I think a lot of guys, since watching this movie, have fantasized being kidnapped this way.
