A Post For Burma

Free Burma!

Imagine as we’re riled and bickering over a “racial slur” in a TV Show and crying that our national pride has been hurt, dozens of people in Myanmar are being arrested and killed by their own security forces, as the regime tightened its hold in power.

While we’re protesting that there are just some people who’re abusing their freedom of expression, in Myanmar, citizens take up the challenge of keeping the world’s eyes on them, despite the regime instituting a news blackout.

While in our country everybody is free to share their views (though some people may criticize them for it), in Myanmar today, protesters against the unjust regime are shot down, without trial, without a chance for defense. Soldiers that are supposed to be the protector of the country’s people have become the killer of the people.

The Philippines is fortunate that it is not in Myanmar’s situation today. Let us hope that we do not experience such suffering. But like what Jon said in twitter, we’ve already gone through similar situations and prevailed. The problem is, however, we always forget.

For now, let us help Burma. No country or race deserve such suffering.

I read the article. What your people did is admirable. I hope there’s that much awareness here in the Philippines. Or maybe there is, but people are still fired up about the DH controversy so nobody’s making a move organizing such a march like what they did in Canada. But still, I think the bloggers, at least, contributed what they can for the Free Burma movement by posting about it.
