Thanks to Jigs for tagging me. I think it will be fun answering this :-) and it will distract me for a while from brooding.

Instructions: Name ten (10) life’s simple pleasures that you like most. Then, pick people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.

1. Writing

Whether it be on my old scratch pad or blog site, it provides great catharsis. I am a quiet person and most things that were left unsaid I put into writing. Even those things that I usually gab about. Writing will always be my companion. And, until the end of the world, I think people will still find me writing.

2. Drinking coffee and smoking with close friends

Gone were the times that frequenting the bars of Malate and Makati excites me. Yeah, sure I do like to visit occasionally. But, in today’s stressful times, I would rather spend my free time keeping in touch with old friends, a tall cup of cappuccino or rhumba frapp with raspberry syrup or chamomile tea on one hand and a lit cigarette on the other, in the quiet noise of a coffee shop.

3. Cooking

I’m not good with painting or making music (I’m beginning to suspect I’m tone deaf hehe) so, I guess, this is another art form that I can immerself myself into. I’m good with pasta dishes but I’m trying to get into more vegan dishes. I want to be vegan! Or rather, semi-vegan. I can’t give up my cheese and eggs. Hehe.

4. Reading books

I love books! I like its scent, its texture, and the idea of having so many of it. I love writing and so, I love reading too! The books may be a bit expensive but the act of reading them, savoring the contents…ah…heaven!

5. Sleeping

Who doesn’t like it? The thought of a quiet time is alluring for me, especially during those times when I feel all my senses are overwhelmed. And this is the time I have my rendezvous with Morpheus, healing myself from wounds inflicted by worldly cares and just exploring the dream world. More time should be spent for sleeping. Morpheus can teach us so many things about ourselves, as reflected in this dream world.

6. Observing people

I’d rather be in a distance, sitted in a cafe, quietly looking at people going about their busy lives, than being in the midst of a flurry of activities. It’s a sublime intrusion to their privacies, to listen to them talk and have an ample share of their thoughts or mood for the moment. An emotional vampire, I may be (and one that absorbs like a cotton ball, a friend says). But it’s a good past time.

7. Cradling my cat and hearing him purr

Even if the whole world is already against me, I feel secure and loved just hearing my cat do that. Just me and my beloved kitty against the whole bad, crazy world…

8. Notebook hunting

It’s one of the few things I hunt when I’m in a bookstore. I look for the ones with pretty covers, or the smoothest pages or the most perfect binding. Sometimes I buy it. Sometimes I don’t. But it’s the hunting that keeps me wanting for more.

9. Staring out into space and daydreaming

It’s pleasurable for the mind to let it have its occasional freedom from day to day stress of absorbing megatons of information from study or work and just allow it to wander aimlessly in its own world, where everything and anything is possible. It is a rest for the body too.

10. Surfing the Internet

The most affordable way to fly.

So, okay. I’ve named my ten life’s simple pleasures. I’m tagging Serj, AJ, Chel, Ivan, Vince and Carlo.
